A 360-degree pan while standing on the south platform of the West Oakland BART station, Oakland, California. At one point, I point out these structures that are used to unload cargo from ships. I was told once that George Lucas spent some time living in the San Francisco Bay Area and that those structures were the visual inspiration for the AT-AT machines in Empire Strikes Back.

Born in 1927 in the border area between Washington and Idaho, Kienholz moved to Los Angeles in 1953, where he began making a series of bas-reliefs with found material.
